In a significant reshuffle of parliamentary select and standing committee roles, Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Member of Parliament for Krachi West Constituency in the Oti Region, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Committee.
Hon. Ntoso is also a member of the Ethics and Standard Committee of Parliament.
This development follows the recent adoption of new Standing Orders by the Parliament of Ghana, necessitating revisions in committee compositions.
Hon. Helen Ntoso, renowned for her advocacy for women’s rights and equality, has notably championed gender and children’s issues and contributed extensively on the floor of parliament.
Her efforts and persistent questions on the floor have led to swift government responses to the unpaid caterers of the School Feeding Programme and the extension of the programme to some deprived schools in her constituency.
Prior to her new appointments, Hon. Ntoso served diligently as a Ranking Member of the same Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Committee and the Defence and Interior Committee.
In a contributing to the Affirmative Action Bill on the floor of Parliament, she emphasized the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their gender or background.
She has vast experience in governance, having served as Director of Operation at NADMO (National Disaster Management Organization) and as a Regional Minister for the Eastern and Volta Regions during President John Mahama’s administration.
The adjustments in committee assignments underscore Parliament’s recognition of Hon. Ntoso’s expertise and dedication to advancing gender, children, and social reforms aimed at promoting a fair and just society.
Her longstanding commitment to women’s rights and equality improvements resonates deeply with her constituents and stakeholders across the nation.
Hon. Ntoso expressed gratitude for the new responsibilities, reaffirming her commitment to championing gender mainstream initiatives that uphold fundamental rights and liberties.
Her tenure on the Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Committees is anticipated to enrich parliamentary discourse on crucial women’s and social issues affecting Ghanaians.
The appointment of Hon. Ntoso to these critical roles signals a proactive approach by Parliament to harness specialized skills in advancing gender initiatives that reflect the aspirations of the Ghanaian people.
