The Deputy Minister for Energy, Herbert Krapa, has been appointed as the new Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), multiple reports say.
His appointment by President Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo comes after the incumbent Chairman, Keli Gadzekpo, served notice for his resignation citing personal reasons on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
His resignation is expected to take effect on April 9, 2024, during which Mr Krapa will take over from him.
Mr Gadzekpo was appointed in 2017 and his sudden resignation amidst erratic power outage has raised eyebrows and created concerns about the magnitude of the real cause.
The ECG has been giving myriad reasons for the recent power outage ranging from burnt electricity poles to overloaded transformers, among others.
Meanwhile, citizens have been calling for a load-shedding timetable to guide their routines and plans, a constant request that has been shot down.
Addressing the concern on March 24, the Minister for Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh said, “I’ve promised we are going to work on it. It’s a single event. It’s a process and we will continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better.”
