High import duties increasingly making business environment tough – GUTA boss

“It is increasingly becoming difficult to do business here looking at the duties on goods alone,”

President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) Dr Joseph Obeng has lamented the high import duties in the country.

He said the situation is making trading in Ghana extremely difficult.

“It is increasingly becoming difficult to do business here looking at the duties on goods alone,” Dr. Joseph Obeng said on the Sunrise show on 3FM Tuesday November 29.

Last week, the Vice President of GUTA Clement Boateng attributed this to high import duties.

Speaking on the Sunrise show with Alfred Ocansey on 3FM Thursday November 24 ahead of the 2023 budget presentation, Mr Boateng revealed that duties have gone up between hundred and two hundred percent.

“Duties have gone up between hundred and two hundred percent. Prices are going to be high,” he stressed.

He added “Customers must brace themselves up for price hikes.”
