Rashad McCrorey hosts trips to Africa to help black Americans connect with their culture
In 2019, thousands of African Americans made the trip back “home” to Ghana to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first Africans to be enslaved in America. “The “Year of Return” campaign made a great cultural and historical impact for both African Americans and Ghanaian alike. Now, just in time for Black History Month, one African American travel influencer is spear-heading efforts for black Americans to go “Beyond the Return” to travel back to Africa in 2020.
A full-time entrepreneur raised in Harlem, N.Y., Rashad McCrorey is committed to leading the resurgence of African American travelers back to Africa. Through his travel brand, McCrorey organizes group trips to countries throughout Africa, including Egypt, Ghana, and Kenya, with trips to Nigeria, Rwanda and Togo to open this year.
“Some people want to visit Africa to escape the systematic oppression they face in America,” said McCrorey. “Some took DNA test and want to visit the country of their roots, while others want to vacation to have a good time. People have various reasons for returning to Africa and its 54 countries.”
Since 2017, McCrorey has serviced more than 100 clients, helping them reconnect with their roots.
