Hungry Ghanaian Students in Hungary Angry over delayed Allowance

The students asserted that, this funding gap has been the longest lapse that students on scholarship in Hungary have ever endured. They opined that the delay in the release of the fund has gravely affected students’ performance and continuous enrollment in their universities.

Ghanaian students studying in Hungary have barked at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat over the failure to pay their stipends for the past Eight months, a situation that is making life unbearable for them. The perplexed students explained that, the missed paydays have left many Ghanaian students in that country scrambling daily to cover meals and bills.

The Students, who aired their frustration on their Instagram page ‘GASH_HUNGARY’, indicated that some of the students have resorted to selling their personal items or seeking temporary work while sacrificing precious academic time so they would be able to survive.

The students asserted that, this funding gap has been the longest lapse that students on scholarship in Hungary have ever endured. They opined that the delay in the release of the fund has gravely affected students’ performance and continuous enrollment in their universities.

“The longest funding lapse ever has damaged student’s morale and led to concerns that talented Ghanaian students could lose their Scholarship funding this Fall over poor academic performances. However, much of the damage has already been done. The missed paydays have left many students scrambling to cover meals and bills, selling personal items or seeking temporary work sacrificing precious academic time,” they lamented.

The students bemoaned the lukewarm attitude of the Scholarship Secretariat, that, though the leadership of the students has petitioned the secretariat with vivid explanation about the adverse effects of the delay on their education among others.

“Long before this damaging Financial owes, Ghana Students’ in Hungary’s leadership petitioned Ghana Mission in Prague, Ghana Scholarships Secretariat in Accra to have issues addressed. The Ghana Government’s inability to respond to students’ woes has meant many losing their accommodations, and, have struggled to keep afloat financially” they bemoaned.

They students asserted that the treatment meted out to them by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat is unacceptable as Ghanaian students in Hungary have displayed remarkable Academic excellence, however due to the Government’s insistence on not performing its financial obligations towards students, many of them will suffer the unfortunate consequences.
