I Regret Having Two Abortions-Lady, 24
A young lady name withheld has expressed regret for having two abortions.
Sharing her experience on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the young lady said she was forced to have two abortions by her fiancees she dated because they claimed they were not financially stable.
She told Kwabena Agyapong that she got pregnant for the first time while staying with a woman as a house help.
According to her, the woman showed no interest in how she lived her life and as a result of that, she dated a guy who got her pregnant.
As naive as she was at the time, the lady said she was unaware until her boss confronted with the question of whether she was pregnant, a question denied.
She later confronted the fiancee who asked her to terminate it.
She said they followed the instructions of a doctor and purchased a drug which the fiancee inserted in her, but they were unsuccessful.
The law boy later bought her two bottles of a popular alcoholic beverage which also failed.
They then inserted any drug which also failed.
The two then went back to the doctor who advised them to insert the drug where she was injected with a drug which destroyed the pregnancy.
The lady disclosed she had to use pads to prevent the excessive bleeding she suffered for two weeks.
After this experience, she left to stay with her mum and promised not to date again. However, the economic hardship at the time forced her to date a guy when she was in her second year in secondary school
The relationship she noted resulted in a pregnancy of which the fiancee asked her to abort it.
The young man she stated lured her to abort so she could write her West African Senior Secondary Examination.
The second reason the fiancee gave was the fact that he would marry her should she complete senior high school.
She obliged and had the pregnancy terminated at a private health facility by a matron.
She stressed to the host, ”I have regretted my actions.”
She blamed the church for her actions because she did not receive the right information.
At age 24, the lady said she refused to abort her third pregnancy because she was scared of the repercussions.
Meanwhile, she has hinted of plans by her fiancee with whom she aborted the second pregnancy to marry her.
The two are currently blessed with a son.
The laws of Ghana allows for abortion only under extraordinary circumstances including incest pregnancy, impregnation of a ‘female idiot’ or mad female, and pregnancy resulting from rape.
Abortion is also allowed when health care workers determine that the baby if born will not be able to have a meaningful life or the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother should she still carry it.
