The Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International Ministry, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has issued a stern warning to Ghana’s political leaders, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the citizens to prevent potential unrest and turmoil.
According to him, the country is currently facing challenges, including the mass departure of healthcare professionals, which is indicative of widespread suffering and hardship among the populace.
Speaking at a gathering of Christian Ecumenical Council leaders and former President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Monday, May 20, 2024, Archbishop Duncan-Williams cautioned against neglecting the plight of ordinary Ghanaians.
“May I say this that nobody should think that the Ghanaian is very gentle and doesn’t like trouble. It’s not true, because I saw what happened in 79 and 81 (during the Rawlings coups).”
“There were Ghanaians and some of the violence and murders and unrest in a certain part of this country like what’s going on in Bawku and other places, they are all Ghanaians, and if we don’t manage things well and we have this mentality and thinking that any party can do whatever they want to do and the Ghanaian will accept it, and the Ghanaian will live for it, you might be playing with fire, make no mistake,” he cautioned.
“When people are desperate and angry, they don’t care about what happens, and angry and desperate people are very dangerous to manage and deal with and demons come into town and possess people. Maybe you will know because when demons enter a person, it doesn’t care about your tribe or your citizenship,” he added.
Among the attendees at the meeting were prominent clergymen such as Rev. Stephen Wengam, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh, and Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, along with representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
