IAWPA-Ghana launches Ten Innovative Programs to Promote Peace

Outlining the projects, Dr. Ben Owusu underscored the critical role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana. He highlighted the Ghana Youth for Peace Summit as a key platform that will empower young people to discuss and explore avenues for peace advocacy and leadership.

The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) – Ghana, last Wednesday, launched ten groundbreaking projects aimed at promoting peace, excellence, and cultural heritage across the country.

The brief but colorful ceremony took place at the Pottersville Church International, East Legon Hills – Accra, attracting participants from diverse backgrounds and countries, all united in a shared commitment to peacebuilding.

Delivering the keynote address, United Nations Eminent Peace Ambassador and Country Director of IAWPA-Ghana, Dr. Samuel Ben Owusu, emphasized that the initiatives reflect the organization’s holistic approach to fostering peace and promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

“These projects demonstrate IAWPA-Ghana’s comprehensive strategy to promote peace, foster excellence, and preserve cultural identity,” Dr. Ben Owusu noted.

“Today, we are gathered here to witness the launch of an impressive array of ten innovative projects designed not only to promote peace and cultural heritage but also to encourage excellence across various sectors of the nation,” he stated.

The ten projects include:

  • Africa Peace Impact Dialogue
  • Accra Business Excellence Awards
  • National Traditional Leadership Excellence Awards
  • Leaders of Peace Alliance
  • Media for Peace Alliance
  • Women for Peace Awards
  • Africa Peace Advocate Awards
  • National Tolerance Index
  • Ghana Indigenous Culture and Heritage Festival

Dr. Ben Owusu explained that the Women for Peace Awards seeks to honor women who have made outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, highlighting the vital role of women in promoting peace and stability within their communities.

He added that the Africa Peace Advocate Awards and the National Tolerance Index aim to recognize individuals and institutions that champion peace, tolerance, and unity among citizens.

According to him, these initiatives are designed to empower local communities to become agents of positive social change while fostering a culture of peace and harmony.

IAWPA-Ghana’s efforts, he concluded, align with the organization’s mission to promote peace, enthrone tranquility, and nurture local actors as global ambassadors of peace.
