Infrastructure development is key to unlocking the continent’s prosperity – Gabby Asare Okyere-Darko

The Africa Prosperity Network is a leading organization focused on promoting economic development and self-reliance across Africa through initiatives like infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, and skills training.

Gabby Asare Okyere-Darko, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), has emphasized the critical importance of Africans investing in infrastructure development across the continent.

Speaking at the official launch of the third edition of the Africa Prosperity Network in Accra on last Monday, 13th May, 2024, Mr. Okyere-Darko stated that investment in areas such as transportation, energy, and telecommunications infrastructure will play a major role in unlocking the prosperity of Africa.

He is of the view that well-developed infrastructure is a fundamental enabler of economic growth and development as it facilitates the movement of goods, services, and people, connects markets, and supports industrialization and job creation – all of which are essential for prosperity.”

The APN leader believes that Africans themselves must take the lead in investing in and developing their continent’s infrastructure, rather than relying solely on external sources of funding and expertise.

“Imagine what Africa will be like in 20 years if we choose to get it right in this time. Despite the continent’s potential, its infrastructure gap serves as a more potent blockade. “

“The success of AfCFTA hinges on key enablers such as energy, water, research and development, ICT, transport and logistics and the digital economy.” He said

Gabby Asare Okyere-Darko continued, “this calls for substantial investment in infrastructure that will yield even greater rewards. We stand at a critical juncture in history where unlocking prosperity now more than ever depends on prioritizing investment in infrastructure.”

“Connecting our people through infrastructure and integrating our economies to create and spread opportunities and prosperity in every community in Africa.

“This is where we must now direct our collaborative effort, if we are serious about allowing Africans to do business across Africa and for our young people, who build Africa to see their future in Africa.”
