“A winner is a dreamer who never gives up” – Nelson Mandela.
In these times of uncertainty and instability, with the medical safety of our lives and that of our children on the line vis a vis this dreadful virus (Covid -19), many have genuinely in the spirit of patriotism put forth many suggestion as to how the government must act to protect lives.
However, care must be taken in the implementation of ideas as some of them come with great repercussions.
Skimming through the various alternatives to select the best possible solution can be overwhelming but we at Educate Africa Institute (EAI) have no tread of doubt that government would live up to the task and do what have to be done to protect all of us.
With this assurance borne out of deep conviction, EAI wishes to humbly reiterate our support for the idea of keeping our schools running as any attempt to close them may prove fatal to the poor learners who are already in the state of dilemma and also the worse of academic standard due to the ten months of closure already experienced last year( 2020).
Many well meaning Ghanaians are very concern of the safe of the school children viewing the fact that from infrastructure to security, our basic schools ate vulnerable against any menace most especially the one that can’t be sent(viruses).
Therefore, EAI, wish to unveil the truth about a new “virus” wish would kill our children should schools be closed again indefinitely. This “virus” is illiteracy. As a teacher, I need no angle to prove that the academic standard of our learners following the ten(10) months of school closure has had a toll on our children’s performance.
Hence, we are by this release advising the government to establish a shift system to help stop the spread rate of the coronavirus rather than closure of schools. EAI is advocating for the shift system because, that will help schools ensure social distance and follow other protocols. Also, nobody knows when the virus will be defeated totally to enable our school children return to school if government halt academic activities.
Besides, the science and data or researchers have not come out with any day the virus is going to move out from among us. We advise that, as Africans we must also trust and believe in our herbs to restore good health.
Even though, EAI have gathered that, the Volta River Authority (VRA) has revealed that about 40 students tested positive for Covid-19 at the Akosombo International School and they have been isolated for treatment. According to the authorities in a press release, those who tested positive for the virus are stable and without symptoms, but they have still been admitted at the VRA Hospital for further management.
Though, we see the above report to be too scary for life is precious, hence the need for government to introduce a shift system to help stop the spread of the virus and keep the academic calendar running. On the 15th of January, 2021 when schools were opened still PPEs and other things needed to fight against the virus ware not enough. Some school children and their teachers are still studying under trees. This indicates that, even if students stay at home for two good years more, no miracles would be performed to eradicate such menace. So, we need to learn how to live with the pandemic just like malaria, HIV/AIDS etc. We just have to be disciplined.
Now, we urge parents to endure without losing temper. Support government and cease the threat of going for your kids from school and let us side with the government for a better future. We know it’s not easy but, “The gods are not to blame”. This is a pandemic, a disease affecting a wide geographical area.
Fellow Africans, let us be humble, obedient and follow the safety measures proposed by the WHO and government. This is the only way to help keep us safe. We are the CEOs of our lives. Those of us who can donate PPEs, kindly come on board and support the schools.
Ghana is calling on all of us to get involved and overcome the virus. Solidarity is strength. Lets desist from politicising this issue as doing so, is a sign of immaturity.
We’re citizens of Ghana. Africa is born in us.
