Government has announced an integration of the database of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) set to go live in January 2020.
“This will complete another plank of the Digitisation Agenda of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, Vice President Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia made this known in an address during a reception hosted by the National Insurance Commission.
With this, Passengers will soon be able to check on their phones if the trotro or bus they are about to board has been properly insured. The police will also, using a mobile phone, be able to tell if any car is properly insured or registered.
The motor database will also help to stop the leakages from the insurance revenues through fake motor insurance stickers.
Reports say out of the 2.3 million vehicles registered in 2018; only one million were issued with genuine motor insurance stickers.
