It has emerged that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has issued a letter appointing her own brother, one Charles Osei Bonsu to chair one of the juicy Boards in the country.
Analysts have described the move as the highest form of nepotism ever to be felt in the Akufo-Addo government since 2017, next only to the President himself.
Charles Osei Bonsu will now serve the Akufo-Addo government in a capacity as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), one of the boards where a lot of activities are expected to take place in this second term administration of President Akufo-Addo.
Sources familiar with the development believe the Chief of Staff is prioritizing nepotism by sidestepping the current Board Chair who has been credited with massive facelift of the Ghana Tourism Authority in the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration that saw the successful Year of Return, Beyond the Return, Afrochella and other major concerts highlighting Ghana to the world.
The former Chairperson of the GTA Board, Adelaide Ahwireng has now made way for Frema Opare’s brother to “also eat”, for that is the impression created.
Reports suggest that it is because Madam Ahwireng already served on the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and that is why she is being asked to make way for another person to also come and enjoy some. And the Chief of Staff deemed it necessary to bring Charles Osei Bonsu to the table of “extraordinary eaters”.
This comes less than a week after a Member of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor fingered the same Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Opare in the sale of State properties.
