Former president John Mahama has taken a swipe at Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who purportedly described critics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as “witches.”
“If someone complains that since the NPP came he/she has not benefited anything ask the person if he or she did not hear it raining when he got out and saw it is wet didn’t he see? Is this not witchcraft? When someone is complaining shut the person down,” the MP reportedly stated at a public event in her constituency – Ablekuma West.
Although she denied such claims – despite audio evidence – insisting she was taken out of context, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama over the weekend took her on during a brief stopover at Sogakope in the Volta region.
Mr. Mahama said it is erroneous for Ghanaians to be tagged as witches when they are exercising their constitutional rights by putting the government on its toes.
“All of you are hardworking Ghanaians and when you criticize your government it is not because you are witches,” the former Ghanaian leader told the crowd on his way back to Accra.
He added: “Nobody is a witch.”
“When government is not delivering, you have the right to criticize the government,” Mr. Mahama insisted amidst loud cheers from the crowd.
