‘It’s just 23hrs since polls closed’ – EC to Ghanaians urging patience

“We ask that citizens exercise patience, as it has only been 23 hours since the close of the polls. The process is detailed and involves the participation of political party agents and observers at every stage. We will announce the results as soon as they are ready, but no later than 72 hours,” she stated.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to political stakeholders and the general public to remain patient, emphasising that only 23 hours have passed since the polls closed.

During a press conference on Sunday, December 8, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, reassured Ghanaians that the official results of the presidential and parliamentary elections would be announced once they have been thoroughly verified.

Jean Mensa explained that the Commission is working within a 72-hour timeframe to complete the verification process required for accurate results.

Her comments came in response to a call from the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who urged the EC to promptly declare the results following Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s concession of defeat as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.

The EC Chairperson stressed that the Commission is committed to a meticulous process to ensure both accuracy and transparency in the final results.

She called on the public to remain calm and allow the EC to fulfil its constitutional duty.

“We ask that citizens exercise patience, as it has only been 23 hours since the close of the polls. The process is detailed and involves the participation of political party agents and observers at every stage. We will announce the results as soon as they are ready, but no later than 72 hours,” she stated.

Madam Jean Mensa also noted that the EC has received results from the Ahafo Region, and is in the process of compiling results from other regions.
