Jerry John Rawlings is Dead

Former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings, has died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh gathered that Mr. Rawlings who had been on admission at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Korle Teaching hospital since Sunday finally gave up the ghost this morning at about 9 o’clock.

It is unclear what actually caused his death but insiders have hinted that he died of “underlining diseases”.

He was 73 years old and left behind a wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and 4 children, one of whom is a medical doctor and Member of Parliament (MP).

Jerry John Rawlings buried his mother Madam Victoria Agbotui in October 2020. Madam Agbotui died at the age of 101.

Mr. Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947.

He was a former military leader and subsequent politician who ruled Ghana from 1981 to 2001 and also a brief period in 1979.

He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana.
