As part of its commitment to transparency for the upcoming 2024 general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana organized a tour for journalists to observe the printing of presidential and parliamentary ballot papers. This unprecedented move aims to provide both the Ghanaian public and international community with insight into the secure and transparent process underway.
During the tour, journalists were shown the progress made in ballot printing, with explanations on the security features embedded within the ballot papers. However, media personnel were restricted from taking full images of the ballot papers to prevent the premature disclosure of printed materials. Presidential ballot printing has been temporarily delayed following the recent passing of Ms. Akua Donkor, the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). The EC is currently addressing the matter to proceed with printing the presidential ballots.
The journalists visited three key printing companies involved in the process: Buck Press in Ofankor, Innolink Press in the Industrial Area, and Acts Commercial Limited in Dansoman. At each site, representatives from all political parties collaborated closely with EC officials to ensure a smooth and transparent ballot production process.
In an interview, Deputy EC Chair Mr. Bossman Asare explained that all ballot bags for each constituency will be securely sealed, with each political party’s seal affixed to guarantee security. He emphasized the EC’s collaboration with security agencies to ensure safe transportation of ballot papers to their destinations. Mr. Asare concluded by underscoring that transparency remains a core priority for the EC, as they work to deliver free and fair elections on December 7, 2024.
