Jude Bellingham has been cleared to play in England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday despite receiving a one-match suspension ban and a fine for a gesture made during the last-16 win over Slovakia.
The 21-year-old midfielder’s suspension is for a year, and he has been fined £25,400 (30,000 Euros) by Uefa. The governing body investigated the incident in which Bellingham made a crotch-grabbing gesture towards the Slovakian bench after scoring.
Bellingham clarified on social media that the gesture was intended as “an inside joke towards some close friends who were at the game” and emphasized his respect for Slovakia’s performance.
Meanwhile, Turkey defender Merih Demiral has received a two-match ban for making a ‘wolf salute’ gesture during Turkey’s last-16 victory against Austria.
