Just In: Gunmen Attack Kumasi-Bound Bus on Bolga-Tamale Road, Killing Driver and Injuring Passengers

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or the motive behind the attack.

In a tragic incident this evening, Saturday, January 11, 2025, a Kumasi-bound bus with registration number AS 9392-21 traveling from Garu was ambushed by unidentified gunmen at Pusu-Namong near Bolgatanga on the Bolga-Tamale road.

The attack, which occurred at about 8:30 pm, saw the assailants open fire on the bus, forcing it off the road. Eyewitness accounts to Ghananewsonline.com suggest that several passengers sustained injuries in the terrifying ordeal. The driver, identified as a Guruma man, is said to have tragically lost his life on the spot.

According to our sources the gunmen fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving behind chaos and fear among the passengers. Police personnel have been dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and investigate the attack.

We learnt that the injured passengers have been moved to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or the motive behind the attack.

The Bolga-Tamale road is a critical route in northern Ghana. It is therefore expected that police patrol would increase around the area to ensure the safety of travelers and to prevent similar occurrences.

The attack has already sparked widespread concern among residents and commuters in the region, with calls for intensified efforts to address rising insecurity on major highways in the area.
