Justice Abdullai Sues A-G and Ghana Police Service Over Appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

Private legal practitioner, Justice Abdulai has dragged the Attorney-General’s Department and the Ghana Police Service to court over the appointment of Commissioner of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno by the President upon the advice of the Police Council, as Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of Operations. Justice Abdulai, in a writ dated July 30, 2024, argues that the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is not contained in the tenets of the constitution. President Akufo-Addo, on the 17th of July, 2024, issued a press release announcing the appointment of the experienced police officer to the rank of deputy IGP in charge of operations. A portion of the writ reads, “A further order restraining the Inspector General of Police or any command under him from accepting, relating to and/or issuing instructions or commands to COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno in his assumed capacity as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Operation.”
