Kasoa: Six suspects remanded over alleged lynching of prisons officer

The Ghana Prisons Service has confirmed the tragic death of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a Prisons officer stationed at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, who was allegedly lynched at Kasoa Iron City on September 29, 2024.

 

According to a statement released on Sunday, the officer had obtained permission to visit relatives in Kasoa when he was reportedly attacked and killed by a group of unidentified assailants.

 

“The Prisons Administration is collaborating with the Police to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the officer,” the statement read.

 

The service also noted that six individuals—four females and two males—have been arrested in connection with the incident and have appeared in court. The suspects are currently remanded for further investigation.

 

The leadership of the Ghana Prisons Service is determined to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

 

The statement further cautioned the public against engaging in acts of “Instant Justice” when dealing with suspected criminals, urging people to rely on law enforcement authorities to avoid the wrongful harm or killing of innocent individuals.

 

The Service expressed its condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased officer and encouraged fellow officers to remain calm as efforts are made to secure justice for Lance Corporal Boakye.
