Keta: Fisherfolks hail Government over Bumper Harvest

They described the close season which lasted throughout the month of July as frustrating but a great move to boost the living conditions of all stakeholders in the fishing industry

 

Fisherfolks in the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region have hailed the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo led government over what they have described as bumper harvest of fish following the opening of the close season early this month.

According to the fisherfolks who used many articulations to express their excitement at their Success, they described the close season which lasted throughout the month of July as frustrating but a great move to boost the living conditions of all stakeholders in the fishing industry.

Chief Fisherman of the area, Seth Agbo Kedey on behalf of the fisherfolks expressed their gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and the government through the Municipal Chief Executive Officer for the Keta Godwin Effah during a working visit to access the living standards of the fisherfolks and also gather first hand information on the impact of the opening of the close season on their livilihood of the people at Keta.

“We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the President of the Republic Nana Akufo-Addo for this initiative and to our Mama, Hon. Hawa Koomson, the Minister in-charge of our industry, we say ‘ayekoo’ for your bold decision to implement this policies amidst unwanted pressure mounted on the ministry to rethink about the implementation of the said close season policy, but today we are the beneficiaries as we are harvesting a lot to boost the economy” the Chief Fisherman observed.

They promised their unflinching support to government for the implementation of any policy that would seek to develop and improve the living conditions of the industry as it will help increase yield in the harvest of fish in the country.

Municipal Chief Executive for the Keta, Godwin Effah, in an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh congratulated the fisherfolks for their harvest after entreating them to stop any form of illigal fishing which could affect the harvest of healthy fish for human consumption. He charged them to strictly adhered to the protocols governing fishing in the country.

He again promised his commitment to the fishing industry in his Municipality to boost living standards.
