The Ketu South Municipal Hospital in Aflao recorded a total of 11 live births in 10 hours on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
The first delivery was successful at 11:30 am and by 10:00 pm the 11th birth was recorded.
Information gathered by Ghananewsonline.com.gh revealed that ten (10) mothers had a normal vaginal delivery while one (1) had to undergo a cesarean session to deliver her baby.
The new arrivals included five (5) girls and six (6) boys.
“We are always ready to take good care of our clients and deliver healthy babies with their mothers in good condition. As you saw, we had 11 deliveries just in a day, all babies delivered were alive and were all discharged in good health,” maternity and labor ward in-charge Ms. Getrude Amegashie said in an interview.
“We entreat all women to seek skilled delivery and always come to us to deliver – we promise them the best care and best experience possible,” Amegashie added.
Despite the achievements, Ms Amegashie has appealed to individuals, and NGOs to support government efforts to solve some challenges facing the Labor Ward Department.
“Our ward is smaller as compared to the number of clients we see per day and monthly and we wish it could be expanded.
We have limited equipment to work with, that is our labor beds are only two which serve all our clients,” she indicated.
One of the mothers who was ushered into motherhood on Mother’s Day expressed her excitement and joy for the special day she gave birth. “This is my first child and it’s on Mother’s Day – though it was a painful journey am glad to join motherhood,” she said.
The Ketu South Municipal Hospital is the only neonatal intensive care unit serving public, and private hospitals, CHIP compounds, and some health facilities from neighboring Togo.
