The Ketu South Municipal Office of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has so far issued a total of 10,746 Ghana cards as of June, 2022 with 13,315 cards yet to be issued or collected by applicants.
This was disclosed by the Municipal Officer of the NIA, Ms Elsie Dowokpor, in a recent interview with The SPYder.
Madam Dowokpor said before the establishment of a permanent office in the Municipality in the latter part of 2021, the NIA enrolled a total of 6,965 applicants out of which it printed and issued 4,844 cards.
She attributed the backlog of cards yet to be issued to the unavailability of adequate biometric verification machines and the incessant low internet connectivity as applicants have to go through the biometric verification process all over again to double check their bios before being issued with their cards.
Precious, an aggrieved applicant who spoke to The SPYder at the premises of the NIA said she was tired of going to the NIA premises every time to pick her card only to be given one excuse or the other.
“Sometimes you are told the machine is not working or the network is down,” she lamented bitterly.
