English footballer of Ghanaian descent, Kobbie Boateng Mainoo emerged as Man of the Match (MOTM) in his maiden start for the England’s senior national team in their friendly game against Belgium on Tuesday, March 26.
The Manchester United midfielder featured 74 minutes before he was replaced by Tottenham’s James Maddison.
According to WhoScored.com, he completed 42 of his 47 attempted passes, with a success rate of 89 per cent overall on the evening.
Gareth Southgate’s side held Belgium who had taken the lead in the first half in a stalemate at the Wembley Stadium.
Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans put Belgium in the lead twice- first in 11 minutes and then inside 36 minutes but Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham cancelled them out in both halves.
The performance of Mainoo, the 18-year-old, did not just win him the MOTM but also attracted the praises of Jude.
“He was good tonight…I know how hard it can be when there is clamour and people put pressure on you.
“He is a brilliant player and I am sure he is going to have a great career at Manchester United, and hopefully for England as well,” said Jude to Channel 4.
