Kpetoe hit by Perennial Water Crisis

"This phenomenon has become so frequent due to the population growth which makes the community water supply insufficient for the population"

The people of Kpetoe in the Agotime-Ziope district of the Volta Region have once again been hit by perennial water shortage.

Over the years Kpetoe and its environs have been battling with lack of access to portable water.

A concern raised by Dr George Grandy-Hallo – an opinion leader in the community and sighted by the Punch Newspaper bemoaned the harrowing situation confronting affected residents in the community.

According to him the water shortage gets worse during the dry season when the Tordze river dries up.

“This phenomenon has become so frequent due to the population growth which makes the community water supply insufficient for the population”

“This season, 2021/2022, is no exception as the Tordze river has dried up again,” he said individuals rely on Tricycles for water supply in various parts of the community.

“The tricycles also scarcely get water which is not wholesome, and supply to residents at exorbitant prices.

“I vividly recalled similar situations were experienced in the past but was managed, somehow through some interventions by the District Assembly. During the tenure of Honorable Zikpuitor Michael Kobla Adzaho as District Chief Executive, during which Poly tanks were positioned at vantage points within Kpetoe township and water tanker filled them with “essential commodity” for supply to residents.

He raised some critical concerns to include “Where are those poly tanks used at the time? Where is the water tanker now? Why can’t the Assembly consult and explore avenues to mitigate the plight of our people?”

He appealed to the authorities to act timely in resolving the matter before things deteriorate further.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Emilia Adjema, told the Punch Newspaper that a mechanism has been put in place to ameliorate the suffering of the residents in respect of the water shortage.

She hinted that giant size poly tanks are being placed at various locations whilst the Assembly Vehicle draws water from Ho to fill them on regular basis.

According to her, this is just a short term measure and that the Assembly intends to map out a long term strategy to curtail the perennial water problem in the affected areas.
