As part of its efforts to enhance environmental consciousness and promote good sanitation practices, the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) has officially launched the *Environ Green Club*, a student-led initiative aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness among the youth. The launch took place at the school’s assembly hall on Wednesday, with enthusiastic participation from students, staff, and local community leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Principal of KTI, Mr. Gabriel Kingsford Osei, outlined the primary goals of the Environ Green Club. He explained that the club seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sanitation in their respective communities.
“Our aim with the Environ Green Club is to empower our students to become ambassadors of cleanliness and sanitation, not just within the school, but in their homes and communities. By teaching them about the importance of proper waste disposal and environmental stewardship, we believe they will play a significant role in keeping our surroundings clean and safe,” Mr. Osei said.
Mr. Osei emphasized that sanitation is a shared responsibility and expressed hope that other schools in the region would follow KTI’s lead by establishing similar clubs to promote environmental sustainability.
“We are calling on other schools to form their own Environ Green Clubs. If we start with the students, we are shaping the future generation to be more mindful of how their actions impact the environment. Together, we can make sanitation a priority for everyone,” he urged.
The Environ Green Club will involve students in regular cleanup exercises, educational campaigns on sanitation, and waste management projects. Members of the club will also work closely with local authorities and environmental agencies to address sanitation issues within the Kumasi community.
Mr. Osei further noted that the initiative aligns with the national vision of promoting environmental sustainability and tackling waste management challenges in the country. “We recognize the pressing environmental challenges we face as a nation, and we believe that by starting here with our students, we can contribute to a larger movement for change.”
In addition to promoting cleanliness, the Environ Green Club will also introduce students to eco-friendly practices such as recycling and reducing plastic use, which will further contribute to the protection of the environment.
The students expressed their excitement about the new club, with many eager to get involved in various projects. One student, who spoke on behalf of the club members, said, “We are thrilled to be part of this initiative. We know the importance of keeping our environment clean, and we look forward to spreading this message beyond our school to our families and communities.”
