Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, presided over the CAF Zonal WAFU B meeting in Cairo on Monday, March 10, 2025.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe attended as a special guest, accompanied by General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba. President Okraku warmly welcomed them and praised Dr. Motsepe for his leadership, highlighting the financial investments made in African football under his tenure.
Okraku also commended WAFU B members for their dedication and support, emphasizing the positive strides made under the leadership of WAFU B Executive Director Philippe Tchere.
“Under our Executive Director, we have seen a remarkable administrative transformation at the zone secretariat. The diversity and expertise within our team have strengthened collaboration and streamlined operations, ensuring that all Member Associations’ needs are effectively addressed,” Okraku stated.
He underscored capacity-building efforts as a key focus area, noting significant progress, including the completion of WAFU B’s new headquarters in Abidjan.
“We have prioritized skills development for our employees, recognizing that people are our greatest asset. I am pleased to announce that WAFU B has moved to its new headquarters in Abidjan, and we invite everyone to join us for the inauguration on April 27, 2025.”
Looking ahead, Okraku revealed that WAFU B, in alignment with CAF’s vision, plans to organize at least five youth competitions for boys and girls this year.
“These tournaments will not only enhance competition among our Member Associations but also provide crucial opportunities for talent development. With the right leadership, we are confident in elevating football within our zone,” he added.
The meeting brought together key football stakeholders from WAFU Zone B nations, including Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger, and Togo.
