Lady, 40, Swoons At Kotoka Airport: Rushed To Hospital After Allegedly Ingesting Coke

She appeared to be travelling alone when the incident occurred because nobody owned up when KIA security at final processing points asked if she was being accompanied.

Security agency sources at the Kotoka International Airport KIA say a lady (name withheld), and aged about 40, has been rushed to a health facility in Accra, suspected of having swallowed cocaine.

The decent, fair-coloured lady was seen, according to The Inquirer sources, initially looking stressed, only to be swooning seconds later, and almost falling over as security personnel rushed to pick her up and rush her to hospital in an ambulance.

She appeared to be travelling alone when the incident occurred because nobody owned up when KIA security at final processing points asked if she was being accompanied.

Despite Ghana’s democratic gains and benefits in global partnerships, there is growing concerns about the West African country being listed among economies tagged as potential and emerging drug hubs.

KIA is fitted with adequate technology or, for that matter, state of the art, enabling detection of contraband activity, including precision scanning and rounding up of rings in collaboration with embarking and destination authorities.

At least, that was the impression our sources confidentially gave The Inquirer and which is why the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo administration has intensified checks in minimising the use of KIA as a drug traffic hub.

Young ladies and particularly celebrities taking advantage of courtesies granted them have been known to be occasionally abusing their privileges and ending up caged on entry at airport facilities in the Europe and the US.

While some suspects are repatriated after trials and convictions, serving harsh sentences, others are used as informants in tracking down goons in the trade in holistically dealing with the scourge.

“As experienced KIA security, we can tell how these persons – most of them decent ladies – behave when they have difficulty managing the pellets within their systems,” our sources revealed.

Another source, affirming the incident cited the airline she was hopping on and her seat number exclusive to The Inquirer.

Her address had also been certified as we went to press, with the police and other security investigating her ultimate destination address and residence or hotel she would be lodging and such other stuff in widening investigations in collaboration with Interpol.
