The University of Ghana Stadium at Legon has been declared unfit to host home games of Accra Hearts of Oak in their remaining matches in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

This comes days before the resumption of remaining Ghana Premier League matches slated for March 7, 2025 after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) initial suspension.

The decision is in line with the recent assessment of the facility by the Club Licensing Board of the GFA to enhance security measures at various stadias.

With this, Hearts of Oak together with fellow premier league clubs such as Accra Lions and Legon Cities who shared the venue for their home matches have to look for alternatives immediately.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, the club’s Communication Director, Kwame Opare Addo, confirmed the GFA update ahead of the weekend matches.

“On Thursday evening, we received information that, per the enhanced safety and security measures, Legon Stadium does not meet the required standards, and as such, we cannot play there,” Kwame Opare Addo stated.

He explained: “The communication states that the pitch is undulating and that the safety and security zones from where the buses park to the dressing rooms are deemed not secure enough. Because of that, they have ruled the venue unavailable.”

Hearts of Oak initial adoption of the University of Ghana Stadium follows the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium by the National Sports Authority (NSA).

It is thus far reported that the Accra-based club could their home matches to the Sogakope Park in Volta Region for the interim.
