LIVE: Parliament Debates Ad Hoc Committee Report on Alleged Plot to Remove IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare

These divisions became apparent after the special committee’s report was presented to Parliament without the signature of the Committee Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea. All other seven members of the committee signed the report.

Parliament is currently debating the Adhoc Committee report on the alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The contents of the report have sharply divided members of the ad hoc committee who were tasked with investigating the leaked audio tape that discussed the plot. The tape allegedly features three senior police officers conspiring with a former New Patriotic Party regional chairman to remove the IGP from office. The officers include COP George Alex Mensah, Supt George Lysander Asare and Supt Emmanuel Eric Gyebi.

These divisions became apparent after the special committee’s report was presented to Parliament without the signature of the Committee Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea. All other seven members of the committee signed the report.

The Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea disagrees with the findings and conclusions of the report. He has also expressed a desire for the committee to invite more witnesses following allegations against the IGP, including claims that he supervised extra-judicial killings—an allegation that the IGP has denied.

However, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, James Agalga, is currently presenting the report, which has reached a verdict of professional misconduct against the police officers. This presentation will pave the way for the House to debate the document, which also found the three senior officers guilty of lying under oath during their testimonies.
