Awal Mohammed, an independent parliamentary candidate in the Madina constituency, has been remanded into police custody by the Adenta Circuit Court following a case of alleged dishonesty and deception. The court adjourned the case, with Mohammed set to reappear on Friday, October 18, 2024, for a ruling on his bail application.

A former Branch Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Madina, Awal Mohammed sparked controversy after using the image of NDC Flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, alongside his own on his campaign posters. This act, viewed by many as deceptive, nearly triggered violent confrontations in the constituency.

The NDC, having filed a formal complaint with the Madina Police, pushed for Mohammed to be charged. He was subsequently arraigned before the court.
