President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has called on religious leaders across the country to support him in fulfilling the high expectations of Ghanaians.
Speaking after receiving a delegation from the Assemblies of God Church, Mahama emphasized that the massive endorsement he received in the 2024 elections reflects the trust and hopes of the Ghanaian people.
“As I take on this new responsibility, I recognize the enormous expectations placed on me. I urge all religious leaders to join hands with me in guiding this nation toward prosperity and peace,” Mahama stated.
The delegation, led by the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, paid a courtesy call on the newly elected President following his declaration as the winner of the 2024 elections by the Electoral Commission.
In attendance were First Lady Lordina Mahama and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, among others.
Mahama expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the church for its constant support throughout his political career and personal life.
“I deeply appreciate the church’s unwavering support. Your prayers and guidance have been a source of strength for me,” Mahama said. “As I lead this nation, I promise to do so with honesty and integrity. I will remain truthful in all my dealings, as we work together to build a better future for Ghana.”
In his address, Mahama also urged the church leaders to continue praying for the country and lend their support in the challenges ahead. “This journey requires unity and the collective effort of all Ghanaians, including our religious community,” he added.
Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, in his prayer, sought divine guidance for the president-elect, his family, and his staff.
He also presented Mahama with a Bible, along with other spiritual materials to guide his decisions.
“May God grant you wisdom and strength to lead our nation with righteousness,” Rev. Wengam prayed.
During the meeting, Mahama also addressed concerns about the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
“I understand the sensitivity of this issue, and I will approach it with careful consideration and in line with the values of our people” he added.
