Former President John Dramani Mahama has assured members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) that if elected in the upcoming 2024 elections, his administration will prioritize and continue its agenda of modernizing markets across the nation.
Addressing a gathering of GUTA members in Accra, Mahama reiterated his commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and trading environment in markets throughout Ghana. He emphasized the importance of modernizing these spaces to foster economic growth, improve living standards, and create better opportunities for traders and consumers alike.
“We recognize the vital role that markets play in our economy and communities. Our agenda for modernization aims to enhance the infrastructure, sanitation, security, and overall environment of markets across Ghana,” Mahama stated.
Highlighting the strides made during his previous tenure in office, Mahama pointed to initiatives such as the construction of new market facilities, improvement of sanitation systems, and implementation of technology solutions to streamline trading processes.
“We have seen the positive impact of our efforts in various markets across the country. However, there is still much more to be done. If given the opportunity to serve again, we shall continue our modernization agenda with even greater zeal and dedication,” Mahama assured the GUTA members.
The former president also pledged to engage stakeholders, including traders and market associations, in the planning and implementation of market modernization projects to ensure that they meet the specific needs of local communities.
In response, GUTA representatives expressed appreciation for Mahama’s commitment to market development and pledged their support for his candidacy in the upcoming elections.
“We welcome Mr. Mahama’s pledge to prioritize market modernization. Improving our trading environment will benefit not only traders but also the wider economy. We stand ready to work with his administration to achieve our common goals,” said a spokesperson for GUTA.
As the 2024 elections draw closer, Mahama’s promise to continue the modernization of markets emerges as a key component of his campaign platform, aiming to resonate with traders and voters concerned with economic development and infrastructure improvement.
