President-elect John Dramani Mahama has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the country’s security agencies to take immediate and decisive steps to address the growing incidents of lawlessness following the December 7 general elections.

Reports have surfaced of alleged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) storming state agencies, ransacking offices, and causing disruptions. These incidents have raised concerns about stability during the transition period.

In a national address on Tuesday, December 10, Mahama condemned these acts of vandalism and called for an end to the attacks on state offices and installations.

“These actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. I urge the President and the security agencies to act swiftly to restore law and order,” he stated.

Mahama also appealed for calm, urging all citizens to respect the rule of law during this critical period.

“I’ve received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. While it’s unclear who is behind these attacks, I condemn them in no uncertain terms. These acts must cease immediately,” he reiterated.

Emphasizing the importance of constructive action, Mahama encouraged citizens, especially the youth, to redirect their frustrations toward rebuilding the nation.

“As I said during my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to vent their frustration in criminal enterprise. Instead, they must channel their anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation,” he added.

The President-elect stressed the importance of unity and the need for a peaceful approach to addressing challenges.

“We have fought hard for change and now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to rebuilding the Ghana we want through unity. State power is still in the hands of the present administration,” he noted.

Mahama concluded by calling on the president and security agencies to act decisively in restoring order and ensuring the safety of state institutions.

“I call on the president and the security agencies to act decisively to curb the ongoing acts of lawlessness immediately,” he emphasized.

Mahama’s address serves as a call for calm and cooperation as the nation navigates the transition period, urging all parties to prioritize the stability and progress of Ghana.
