The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover has categorically stated that the government will not take responsibility to compensate traders who were affected by Makola Zongo Lane Fire.

Makola Zongo Lane Fire in Accra experienced a fire outbreak on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), no casualties were recorded in the Sunday fire.

Addressing the people during a visit to the scene, the Member of Parliament of Tema East constituency, Hon, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover indicated that those whose properties have been destroyed should take their responsibilities in their own hands.

Adding that they know the people who caused the fire outbreak and for that matter the traders should take their responsibilities in their own hands for their negligence.

“Government can not take any responsibilities on this, personal responsibilities on those whose properties have been destroyed. So they have to take their responsibilities in their own hands. The government can not and I repeat, cannot. The very people who have caused this we know them, in other jurisdictions they will be charged for that negligence they have done.” The Minister said.

The former Deputy Minister of Transport stressed that the main focus is to ensure the fire is extinguished.

“But for now, I don’t want to ‘take the wind out of the sails’, the chief Fire Officer is here, his regional Commander is here, and the rest of the team. The focus now is how we can bring this fire down and extinguish it on time.” Titus Glover indicated.

The Minister was accompanied by some officials.
