Chairman of the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold, Timothy Binop, has disclosed that 29 customers have lost their lives to shock and depression resulting from their inability to retrieve their monies deposited with the institution.
He made this revelation on Rainbow Radio on Monday, in an attempt to address the public on the seriousness of the plight of the customers of the gold dealership company.
“December last year, Nana Appiah Mensah promised us that he will pay us in ninety days. At the end of the ninety days, he failed to honor his promise. His failure to enact payment made some customers sick, as others unfortunately died.
“He later promised to pay an upfront of 15%, which he also failed…It resulted in the death of 21 customers at the time. As at now the death toll has risen to 29,” he lamented.
Contrary to previously held stance, the Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold are now siding with some public opinions that Menzgold was a scam. They initially blamed the government solely for the collapse of Menzgold and its inability to pay customers, hinting at alleged sabotage.
“Looking at the way we are being treated, it has caused us to lose faith in Nana Appiah Mensah. We have been behind him during the time he was reportedly facing difficulties in Dubai with hopes that he will settle arrears upon arrival
“If things stay this way, we can agree that Menzgold was a ponzi scheme and a scam” Mr Binop said.
They called on the government to help the aggrieved customers of Menzgold to retrieve their locked up cash in order to quell all the protests.
