Mexico and USA friendlies a good test for us – Chris Hughton

“It’s a good test for us. Of course, they are not games against African opponents and on African pitches, but that is the balance we have. We are here for two games where the oppositions will be favourites because they are playing at home, and it will be a big test for us,” he expressed to the Ghana FA media at the team’s base in Charlotte.

Ghana coach Chris Hughton eagerly anticipates the forthcoming friendly matches against Mexico and the USA, considering them a valuable test for the Black Stars.

These games will be played in the United States, with the first game against Mexico scheduled for Saturday. However, the game begins at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday for Ghanaians. The same time applies to the USA match on Wednesday.

Hughton sees these two games as a prime opportunity for the Black Stars to evaluate their readiness for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers beginning in November, featuring Ghana’s matches against Comoros and Madagascar.

These friendly games also play a pivotal role in the team’s groundwork for the Africa Cup of Nations early next year, where they are set to face Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

While the likes of Daniel Amartey, Alexander Djiku, and Tariq Lamptey have withdrawn from the squad, Ghana can rely on deputy captain Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus in the two games.
