Minister-Designate raises concerns over missing DRIP machines records

The Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, has revealed the absence of records documenting the procurement and inventory of equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

This disclosure was made during his vetting by the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, January 21.

Mr. Ibrahim expressed concern over the lack of accountability and transparency regarding the DRIP machinery acquired during the tenure of the previous government.

“There is no record of agreement and inventory of the DRIP machines procured,” he stated, emphasizing the need for improved oversight in government procurement processes.

In a related development, Mr. Ibrahim proposed reforms to the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He called for these elections to be conducted on a non-partisan basis, arguing that such an approach would foster unity and depoliticize local governance structures.
