The Ministry of Transport has responded to recent statements by the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), denying any planned increase in public transportation costs.
Contrary to the GPRTU’s announcement of a 20% fare adjustment, the Ministry asserted that there have been no negotiations with transport operators for such a review.
In a statement, the GPRTU cited rising spare parts prices due to excessive taxes as the primary reason for the proposed fare hike, with the adjustment slated to take effect on January 24, 2024.
It assured the public that if any adjustments were deemed necessary in the future, appropriate information would be provided, as has been the practice in the past.
