Ministry of Education Promotes “Operation Double Science Enrolment” in Cape Coast

The National Coordinator of Science Education emphasized the urgency of boosting science enrolment to meet modern workforce demands. He stressed the initiative’s goal to make science education more accessible and engaging, leveraging national media campaigns and improved infrastructure.

The Ministry of Education has initiated a significant campaign titled “Operation Double Science Enrolment,” culminating in a stakeholder engagement event held in Cape Coast Metropolis.

The gathering brought together students, parents, educators, and educational leaders to promote the importance of science education.

The event commenced with the Regional Director of Education outlining the strategic vision behind the initiative. He emphasized the critical role of science education in bridging the gap between developing and developed nations, aiming to enhance national development through robust science curricula.

“Our objective with ‘Operation Double Science Enrolment’ is to transform teaching and learning environments, making science accessible and engaging for all students,” he stated.

Key strategies highlighted included:

  • Media awareness campaigns.
  • The establishment of 300 new science laboratories.
  • The introduction of virtual laboratories through the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS).

These initiatives are projected to increase the current science enrollment rate from 12% to 25%.

The event, hosted by Wesley Girls’ Senior High School, underscored the institution’s commitment to nurturing scientific inquiry and academic excellence. The Headmistress praised the initiative for aligning with their educational goals and encouraged collective efforts from educators, parents, and students to support it.
