President John Dramani Mahama is expected to announce the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for all regions in Ghana by the close of business on Friday, January 31, 2025. This was confirmed by Anthony Nukpenu, the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 27.
Mr. Nukpenu explained that the Greater Accra Region is in the final stages of its vetting process and will soon submit its list of recommended candidates.
“Some regions completed the vetting process last week,” Mr. Nukpenu said. “We are finalising ours today, and by this evening or early tomorrow morning, we should be forwarding our list to the appropriate office.”
He expressed confidence that the Local Government Minister and the president’s review team would act swiftly to review the recommendations and make appropriate submissions to President Mahama.
“We hope the Local Government Minister and the team set up by the president to finalise it will expedite their review and make the right recommendations to the president for his announcement,” he added.
Mr. Nukpenu expressed optimism that the process would be completed in time for the nationwide announcement of MMDCEs by Friday.
“And so, in my estimation, by Friday, we should be announcing MMDCEs across the country if everyone will work assiduously,” he concluded.
