The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) will today proceed on an indefinite strike action over their conditions of service.
In a press statement dated September 17, the Association said its demands have been in the domain of the government for quite a while now with no immediate address in sight.
“This action is necessitated by some pressing demands which the employer has in our opinion deliberately ignored.”
Among their demands include the provision of adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), their salaries arrears dating back to 2020, Financial Clearance for the Employment of just 500 Mortuary workers and COVID-19 Bonus for Mortuary Workers as promised by President Akufo-Addo.
According to the Association, this action has become imperative as the death rate among its workers in recent times is on the rise.
“Notice is hereby respectfully served on your high offices that, starting from Thursday, 26th September, 2024; Mortuary workers shall exercise their rights as guaranteed in the 1992 constitution by withdrawing all services.”
“Members are directed to close all mortuaries and stay at home until the needful is done. The general public is therefore informed. We however do not expect a letter from any quarters demanding we come for a hearing. Hearing time is over. It is simply about implementation.”
