MTN Ghana concluded its 30 Days of Y’ello Care by commissioning groundbreaking projects for Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region.
In line with the theme: “Education for Rural and Remote Communities,” MTN Ghana employee volunteers implemented a specialized program called “Quench and Connect.” Under this project, the volunteers assisted in drilling digital boreholes in schools experiencing water shortages, enabling students to concentrate on their studies.
MTN Ghana established container-based e-learning libraries equipped with computers, internet access, textbooks, storybooks, and supplementary reading materials to improve teaching and learning.
The initiatives also included data education and digital literacy workshops for both students and teachers. These projects aim to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the selected schools nationwide.
At the handover and closing ceremony of 30 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting education and community development through innovative solutions.
“For the past 17 years, our employees have dedicated themselves to 21 days of service each June. This year, we extended it to celebrate MTN’s success across the continent,” he said.
He noted that the 30 Days of Y’ello Care program at Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School is a testament to corporate social responsibility’s positive impact and volunteerism’s power. “This volunteer program involves the MTN Ghana Foundation, MTN itself, and our staff,” he added.
He disclosed that the program impacted over 40,000 students across 25 senior high schools nationwide.
Deputy Minister of Education John Ntim Fordjour commemorated Ghana’s 64th Republic Day with the conclusion of MTN’s 30 Days of Y’ello Care initiative, highlighting the significant impact of the event on education and community development.
“Every fund that you put into education and making education better is not just an expenditure but a worthy investment whose dividend will soon be enjoyed by all,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the African Union’s declaration of the year as the “Year of Education,” stressing the necessity of digital literacy and infrastructure, and assured continued collaboration with MTN to enhance educational opportunities across Ghana.
The Headmistress of Aburi Presbyterian Secondary Technical School, Mrs. Joyce Appiah, expressed her elation and commended MTN Ghana for including her school in the program. She emphasized that the support provided by MTN Ghana would significantly enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the school.
“You have also provided us with a containerized ICT Lab with eleven computers and a mini-library. The ICT Lab comes with online academic content resources that suit our learning environment. You have provided us with a digitalized Internet of Things (IoT) borehole and four reservoir tanks for storage and easy distribution of water.
You have also established a smart farm to improve the nutritional quality of our meals. Additionally, you have provided the resources for the creation of a robotics club in the school. Finally, we have had 30 days of mentorship sessions.
The MTN staff have positively influenced our students with the spirit of volunteerism and corporate social responsibility.
For these interventions, I repeat: MTN Ghana has cared for Presbyterian Senior High Technical School, and these will help improve our excellent academic outcomes,” she highlighted. She reassured that facilities and resources would be properly maintained to serve their intended purposes.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South, Mr. Frank Aidoo, also commended MTN Ghana for commissioning these remarkable projects for the school. MTN has not only been a leader in telecommunications but also a beacon of hope and progress in various communities across the country.
Their dedication to enhancing education, health, and social infrastructure is exemplary and worthy of the highest commendation. He stressed that these projects would undoubtedly enhance the educational experience of the students at Presbyterian Senior High Technical School.
“This project, an ICT center and restroom, is a significant milestone in our journey towards improving education and infrastructure in our municipality.
The new ICT center will open doors to a world of knowledge and opportunities for our students. In today’s digital age, access to information and technology is crucial for academic success and personal growth.
This facility will equip our students with the necessary skills to excel in their studies and prepare them for the future. It will bridge the gap between traditional learning and modern technological advancements, ensuring our students are not left behind in this fast-paced world,” he emphasized.
