The Ministry of Energy has assured embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson that some communities in his constituency will be connected to the National Electricity Grid very soon.
This follows a parliamentary question filed by the MP on steps being taken by the Ministry to connect Canaan, Tatarenkwanta, Aninkragya, Kyeikrom, Subinso among other areas in the constituency to the National grid.
In answer to the question, a deputy Minister for Energy, William Owuraku Aidoo said even though the communities do not form part of any of the Ministry’s ongoing projects, they will be factored for the next phase.
“The communities have been noted and will be considered for connection to the National Electricity Grid in subsequent phases of the electrification programme,” Mr Owuraku Aidoo told Parliament last week.
Mr Gyakye Quayson who is facing criminal charges including forgery and perjury took time out of his numerous court appearances to file the question. o
He appears unperturbed by the number of court cases against him as he’s always sighted in the chamber performing his parliamentary duties.
It will be recalled that the High Court in July 2021 annulled the Assin North Parliamentary elections saying Mr Quayson was not eligible to contest the polls.
Mr Quayson has since been legally fighting to set this aside with the matter currently pending at the Court of Appeal.
A resident of the constituency Michael Ankomah Nimfah who initiated the action against the MP at the High Court has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to stop the MP from performing Parliamentary duties. That matter remains pending as court officials have been unable to serve the MP with the court processes.
