The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and the NDC 2024 vice presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, have called on the citizenry to desist from deeds that can mar the needed peace before, during, and after the 2024 elections. The two leaders advised while addressing chiefs and people of Elmina during the annual Bakatue festival.
In his address, the paramount chief of Elmina, Nana Kodwo Kondua VI, thanked the NPP and NDC leadership for honoring his invitations to the Edena Bakatue rituals and grand durbar.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo expressed gratitude to the Edena traditional council for acknowledging the support given to the area by his government. He asked the Constituency to rally behind the NPP in forthcoming elections for better developments in the area. President Akufo Addo used the occasion to advise the citizenry to refrain from deeds that can mar peace in the country before, during, and after the 2024 elections.
The NDC vice presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, on behalf of her presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, thanked chiefs and people of the Komenda-Edena-Eguafo-Abrem Constituency for voting for the NDC always. She asked the people to vote again for the NDC for better developments.
Touching on peace in the upcoming elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, called on all especially those in leadership positions to double-check comments that they make on both the electronic media as well as political platforms so as not to lure the youth into violence before, and during, and after the 2024 elections.
The Bakatue is an annual agriculture festival celebrated to welcome new farming and fishing seasons in the area. The celebration of the festival goes with taboos and rituals, and bids farewell after casting the ceremonial net and firing the musketeer thrice.
