NDC General Secretary hopeful, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has been accused of peddling untruth to win favour with electorates in the ongoing internal leadership contest of the party.
United Democrats for Afriyie Ankrah – a group associated with the NDC General Secretary aspirant, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, admonished the former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC to desist from soiling the name of the party as he embarks on his campaign tour across the country.
The caution comes at the back of an interview granted by Fiifi Kwetey on Asempa FM’s’s political talkshow, Ekosisen, where he indicated that the NDC under Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as Director of Elections could not collate the results for the 2020 elections.
In a statement, the group said the comment was completely false and contradicts the official position of the party and that of other stakeholders including the Flagbearer, National Chairman, IT Directorate, Election Directorate and many other leading members of the party who were active during the 2020 election.
“We believe that as a democratic party, we should exercise our internal elections decorously in a manner which preserves the good image of the party and keeps us in a united position to capture power from the reckless NPP government,” the statement noted.
It further stated that people who are seeking to lead the party must campaign with facts and focus on their message rather than resorting to attacking thier opponents.
“We are scandalized that a leading member of the party could sit on a national platform to speak ill about the party in such a manner as has been exhibited by Fiifi Kwetey,” the statement added.
The group also asserted that, this singular act has exposed the party to public ridicule as it seeks to contradict the party’s position and rather confirm the propaganda of NPP after the 2020 election.
However, contrary to the assertion of Mr. Kwetey, the statement clarified that in the 2020 elections, the party had a fully functioning IT Directorate responsible for collation and electronic transmission of results while the Election Directorate led by the able Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah was mandated to identify, recruit, train and deploy party agents across the country as well as printing election materials and safe distribution.
The statement emphasized that Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah by way of experience and his role as Elections Director also created another layer for manual collation of results which became a backup to the electronic transmission.
“It is therefore palpably false for anyone to claim that the NDC couldn’t collate 2020 results,” the statement noted.
The statement also sets the record straight on the legal strategy for the 2020 election petition which was determined by the legal team of the party led by the venerable Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata had nothing to do with the party’s collated results and that the NDC was in court to challenge the credibility of the inconsistent multiple results declared by the Electoral commissioner Jean Mensah.
The statement lamented the unfortunate turn of events by the unanimous FC, who refused to allow the Jean Mensah to be cross-examined.
The statement therefore urged all delegates, NDC members as well as well meaning Ghanaians to disregard the baseless claims by Fifi Kwettey and focus on working hard to ensure that the NDC wins elections 2024 and save Ghana from the current economic challenges and that Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is highly experienced, has the track records and capabilities, and is very committed to leading the NDC as the next General Secretary to unite and build a vibrant party front for victory 2024 and beyond.
