A former aid to the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings and the Acting Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, has received the backing of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Keta Constituency, to contest the party’s Parliamentary primaries slated for May 13, this year.
The members who on Wednesday picked and paid for Dr Djokoto’s nomination forms at the party’s Constituency office in Keta said, they made the move because they believe in his capacity to restore the Keta Constituency to it’s glorious days not only as an economic hub in the region and the country as a whole, but also as a place of great political history.
The NDC members believe that in restoring Keta to it’s towering heights of national significance, a critical prerequisite is the quality of political leadership the area exudes.
“We need a leader who first of all knows and lives by the belief that leadership exists to ensure the collective development of our people. One who believes that true progress lies in our collective development – A leader who has the needed network of persons who will bring in the massive development our people deservedly crave for,” they said.
They further said that the people of Keta were yearning for a tried and tested leader with an unyielding desire to improve the lives of the masses, one who is competent par excellence and one whom the people have known and trusted all these years, a person who would understand them – that approachable, truthful and solution – oriented person. These attributes, the members believe were what Dr Senanu was bringing on board in the upcoming primaries hence their resolve to support him all the way.
Dr Djokoto, who contested the primaries in 2019 but lost narrowly to incumbent Dr Dzudzorli Gakpey, in reacting to the development, said he was humbled by that move coming from the NDC members.
He expressed his profound appreciation to the party faithfuls for believing in him to have paid for his nomination forms to enable him contest the party’s primaries and eventually run for the office of Parliament in the 2024 general elections.
“I do not take it lightly that you are using your hard earned income to pay for my nomination forms – as you have indicated to me it is due to your believe in my capacity to restore our beloved constituency to it’s past glory- Let me assure you all that I will not let you down,” Dr Djokoto said.
The Parliamentary Candidate Aspirant who had been a two time Chairman for the Keta Constituency, called on all aspirants and all party members in the Keta Constituency to work hard towards a very peaceful, truthful and issues – based electioneering process as “we deepen our internal democracy through the election of our Parliamentary candidate – it is when we all do this that the dream of a Better Keta Agenda and a better future for Keta will be realized,” Dr Djokoto said as he launched his campaign on a slogan of “Better Keta: Providing the inspirational leadership Keta needs.”
