The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning that it will not allow any collusion between the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence the outcome of the upcoming December elections.
Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, made this declaration during the NDC’s ‘Enough is Enough’ protest held in Sekondi-Takoradi, aimed at voicing dissatisfaction with the EC.
“We want to safeguard our democracy. This call is for the peace and stability of our country. We are aware of the Electoral Commission’s collusion with the NPP, and we are committed to preventing it,” Buah emphasized during his address.
Buah also highlighted the party’s demand for an independent audit of the voter register, expressing concerns about its credibility. “We know the current register is flawed, and we’ve requested an independent audit. It’s the only way to assure Ghanaians of a credible election that will reflect their will,” he added.
Western Regional NDC Chairman, Nana Toku, echoed Buah’s concerns, declaring the party’s unwavering commitment to pursuing these electoral reforms.
“The EC has presented an unreliable register to the people of this country. We will not rest until it is corrected. Enough is enough; we want peace in this country, and the EC must do what is right. If they fail to act, we will escalate our efforts,” Toku warned.
The Sekondi-Takoradi protest was heavily attended, with notable figures such as Dr. Sipa Yankey, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, joining the demonstration. Approximately 800 police officers were deployed to ensure security as demonstrators marched from Takoradi Mall to the EC office, holding placards some of which read:
- “Rigged Register”
- “Bias EC, Audit the Register”
- “EC Banza”
- “Clergy; silence is complicity. Speak Truth to Power”
