The women Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed their strong support for Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’s nomination as the running mate for the 2024 presidential ticket, alongside the flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, the NDC Female MPs Caucus described Professor Opoku Agyemang’s re-nomination as a milestone for gender inclusivity in Ghana’s political sphere.
They underscored her outstanding contributions to public service, particularly in her roles as the former Minister of Education and a leading academic.
They emphasized her dedication to the welfare of women, children, and marginalized groups in Ghana.
The Caucus, at a press briefing on Thursday, addressed by the 2nd Deputy Whip, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, underscored the significance of Professor Opoku Agyemang’s nomination as a beacon of hope and inspiration for young girls across the nation, showcasing the potential for women to occupy leadership positions at the highest levels of governance.
“Ladies and Gentlemen of the media, we want to thank His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for giving the female MPs and women in Ghana the best gift ahead of the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY by nominating professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as the running mate for the great NDC,”
She stated.
They commended President Mahama for his commitment to inclusivity and for ‘walking the talk’ by investing in women’s leadership capabilities.
This, the Deputy Whip said, highlights his role in accelerating progress towards gender equality.
