NDC’ll resist discrimination against Ghanaians living in Togo during Dec. 7 polls – Asiedu Nketia

He questioned why Ghanaians in far-flung countries like the United States can vote, while those in neighboring Togo are being sidelined.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned against any attempts to block Ghanaians living in Togo from participating in the 2024 general elections, vowing to resist such discrimination.

At a rally in Ziope, a border town in the Agotime Ziope Constituency of the Volta Region, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) handling of the Representation of the People Amendment Law (ROPAL).

He questioned why Ghanaians in far-flung countries like the United States can vote, while those in neighboring Togo are being sidelined.

“So, the logic they want us to understand is that if you are a Ghanaian living in America and you fly to Kotoka International Airport, they will allow you to vote, but if you are a Ghanaian living in Togo and you want to come and vote in your hometown, they say you are a Togolese, a stranger, so we must not allow you to vote. We shall not accept that discrimination,” the NDC national chairman stated.

He also urged voters in the NDC stronghold to be on guard, claiming the NPP would attempt to prevent relatives from crossing the border to vote.

“They [NPP] will find every reason to prevent you from voting and to prevent those who live in Togo from coming to their own country to vote,” he warned.

The party’s national chairman called on the electorate to vote for the NDC in the upcoming polls, highlighting the challenges they have faced under the current government.

“We don’t need to convince you to vote for NDC because you suffer most when NPP is in power. If you want to continue living under that suffering, it is up to you,” he remarked.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Agotime Ziope, Charles Agbeve, echoed the call, urging constituents to come out in large numbers on December 7th to help the party secure 25,000 votes in the constituency.
